How licensing HTML5 games for game portals works

If you run a game portal, you license each game you want with the Extended license. It lets your company run that game on up to 3 portal domains it owns, ad-funded or behind paid access, and you get the full TypeScript source rather than an embed you can't change. You pay once per game, with no royalties. The terms are drafts until legal review, and the licensing page has the current wording.

  1. Shortlist games. Play each demo on the devices your players use and check the specs on the product page.
  2. License them. Add the games with an Extended license. Larger orders get a bundle discount.
  3. Build and brand. Build each game once, adjust the name, colors and copy within your license, and deploy the static output to your domains.
  4. Keep them current. Under the draft terms you get 12 months of updates and 6 months of integration support per license.

A multi-genre, licensed HTML5 game library

Most portals need breadth more than any single hit. The catalog has 50 original single-player games, and you can license any mix of them:

Forty-one are 2D games on Phaser 4.2.1 and nine are 3D games on Three.js r186. New games ship on Tuesdays, and the new releases page has an RSS feed you can watch. If your audience wants a game we don't have, suggest it on the roadmap.

What to look for in an HTML5 game library for a gaming platform

Before you sign with any supplier, check these points. Here is how our games answer them:

  • Source or build only? You get the complete, editable source, with a manifest of every file and its SHA-256 checksum.
  • A written scope. Extended covers up to 3 owned portal domains per game. Syndication to third-party portals and reselling are not allowed.
  • Hosting. Every game is a static build. There is no backend to run, and progress is saved on the player's device.
  • Host control. Games accept URL parameters such as lang, mute, quality and daily, so your portal can set the language or start muted, for example ?lang=fr&mute=1.
  • Reach. Most games ship in six languages, including Arabic with a right-to-left layout, and every game supports touch, mouse, keyboard and gamepad.
  • Weight. Initial downloads run from 300 to 750 KB per game, with a median of about 560 KB.
  • Provenance. Each game lists where every asset comes from in ASSETS.md, and the original games page explains what our Original label claims.
  • Quality checks. Every package passes a clean-room build before sale, and we run end-to-end tests on desktop Chromium, Firefox and WebKit plus emulated Pixel 7 and iPhone 15 profiles.

Ads, analytics and integration

No ad network is built into the games, so you connect the one your portal already uses. Analytics hooks are an adapter you point at your own provider. A portal integration service is planned but not on sale yet; see game development services for its status. Our guide to HTML5 game ad networks compares the options for browser games.

If you are not a portal but want games on a brand or community site, HTML5 games for websites covers that case, and agencies doing client work should read the agencies page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run a game on more than three domains?

One Extended license covers up to 3 portal domains your company owns, per game. For a larger deal, we quote in writing.

Can I syndicate the games to other portals?

No. The Extended license covers portals your company owns. Distributing the games to third-party portals, sublicensing them or reselling the source is not allowed under either license.

Do the games need a server or accounts?

No. Each game builds to static files you can serve from your own domain or a CDN. Saves stay on the player's device, so there are no player accounts or databases to run.

Can we try the games before licensing them?

Yes. Every product page has a playable demo that loads when you click it. Test it on your target phones and browsers, and check the product page for orientation, controls, languages and download size.
